Description
Cockroaches belong to the Order Blattodea and are characterized by their flat, oval bodies, long antennae, and six legs. There are approximately 4,600 species of cockroaches, but only a few are commonly found in homes, with the German cockroach and American cockroach being the most prevalent. They typically range in color from light brown to black and can grow between half an inch and three inches long, with some species possessing wings.
Cockroaches are primarily nocturnal and prefer dark, warm, and damp environments, making kitchens and bathrooms their common hiding spots. They are opportunistic feeders, scavenging on a variety of organic materials, which can lead to contamination of food sources. Signs of an infestation include droppings, shed skins, and a musty odor. Due to their rapid reproductive rates and ability to hide in tight spaces, early detection and intervention are crucial for effective control of cockroach populations.

Spotting live cockroaches during the day, especially in well-lit areas, can indicate an infestation. Cockroaches are primarily nocturnal, so seeing them out during the day suggests a larger problem.
